Pakistan and Mauritius formally signed a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and six Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) on July 31, 2007, in Port Louis, to promote trade and cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement will make it possible for Pakistan and Mauritius to mutually export products on a preferential basis, thereby increasing the volume of trade between them.
Among the products that Mauritius will be able to export at preferential rates to Pakistan are natural flowers, fruit, tea, tinned tuna, sugar and soap.
On the other hand, Pakistani producers will be able to export to Mauritius at preferential rates fruit, vegetables, biscuits, leather products, carpet and floor coverings.
The six MoU are agreements on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Matters, accord between the State Trading Corporation Mauritius and Trading Corporation of Pakistan, MoU on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Matters, MoU between the Small Enterprises and Handicraft Development Authority Mauritius and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority Pakistan, MoU between the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority and the Mauritius Standards Bureau, and an MoU between the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan and Enterprise Mauritius.
Trade between the two countries has been to the advantage of Pakistan.
