Mr Sam Pitroda, chairman of the National Knowledge Commission, said that India needs to incorporate the traditional method in the healthcare system as a means to reach the poor and overcome its weakness.
Mr Pitroda, at a health summit hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), put forth a 10-point agenda to get to the ‘bottom of the pyramid’, and stressed on the need for acquiring the traditional healthcare system for the populace. He added that the western model of healthcare system is accessible only to the ‘top of the pyramid’.
Mr Pitroda stressed on the need to formulate a plan to accomplish the goal. He pointed out that healthcare education and healthcare communication and health research facilities need to be built.
To ensure that the healthcare facilitates are accessible to the wider range of the masses, he suggested the introduction of working groups at state levels, especially at district levels.
He holds, “If we do not have a plan ready for the State and district levels, we can expect little success in this regard”.
The Chairman of the CII National Committee on Healthcare and Chairman of the Apollo Hospitals Group, Dr Prathap C. Reddy in his special address had earlier drawn the attention of the listeners to the need of intensifying momentum for reaching the masses.
He also talked about the need for creating newer healthcare models for a healthier tomorrow. Chairman of the 6th Health Summit and CEO of Fortis Healthcare Ltd, Mr Bhavdeep Singh stressed on the need to improve technology for growth, reach and better results.
