The Government of India, is scheduled to devise the labelling of energy efficiency to be compulsory by August. This initiative is directed to help in conservation of energy, India's power secretary said on Tuesday.
According to H.S. Brahma, the move is targeted at manifesting the energy efficiency claims of automobile manufacturers. This would also help consumers in making choices.
He restated that such initiative by the government would prove beneficial for consumers in opting for the perfect quality of vehicle. Most of the automobile manufacturers claim that their cars are capable of providing an average of 18 kilometres or 20 kilometres a litre.
India's biggest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited which comprises 54.2 percent owned by Japan's Suzuki Motor Corporation, has already displayed interest in the process. The government would also take the initiative for a dialogue with auto companies. Reuters, The Financial Express
