Consortium for Trade & Development (Centad) is a member of Climate Action Network South Asia, the network working with more than 35 civil society organizations in South Asia on Climate Change issues like Adaptation, Mitigation, Finance and Technology Transfer. Centad as an active member of this network provides inputs, participates in the deliberations for effective policy discourse on Climate Change issues.
As part of CANSA, Centad participated in the civil society consultation meeting on the recently developed “World Bank South Asia Region Climate Change Draft Strategy”. This consultative meeting provided an opportunity to share civil society perspectives and ideas to the World Bank’s climate change strategies and action plans in South Asia.
The main objectives of this consultative meeting was-

Strategic Priorities outlined by the World Bank in its Draft Strategy document, such as financing adaptation and mitigation.
- Sectoral contexts and strategies including water and climate change, agriculture and rural sector and others as defined in the document;
- CANSA recommendation to the “World Bank South Asia Region Climate Change Draft Strategy” (with special focus on civil society perspectives in South Asia)
The consultation was held in Crown Plaza Salty, Kathmandu on March 19-20, 2009 and representatives from over 35 civil society organizations in South Asia from 6 countries had participated to review and draft recommendations to “The World Bank South Asia Region Climate Change Draft Strategy”. The initiative had a focus on informing the World Bank’s strategy with civil society perspectives. The meeting will cover the main themes as outlined in the World Bank’s Draft Strategy document.
In this important meeting, as a member of CANSA net work, Centad was invited to do a presentation. Mr. Tirthankar Mandal, Associate Fellow, from Centad participated and presented a holistic view of Transport Sector in South Asia and given recommendations that can be included in the Climate Change Strategy.
