WHO Headquarters, WHO-SEARO and Centad are jointly organising an Advanced Technical Briefing Seminar (ATBS) on Medicines Prices, Availability and Financing to be held from November 10-14, 2008, in New Delhi. DFID is providing financial support for the seminar.
Background:
WHO Headquarters have previously held general Technical Briefing Seminars each year in Geneva. In April 2007, the first Advanced Technical Briefing Seminar on Medicines Pricing, Availability and Price Regulation was held in Geneva. Participants from India and Thailand who attended the seminar suggested that a regional course would be very interesting for participants from the SEARO region. In addition, there were requests from China for such participation. Following detailed discussions with WHO/SEARO, Government of India officials, Indian academics and NGOs, the next ATBS on Medicine Prices, Availability and Financing is planned to be held in Delhi from November 10-14, 2008.
Objectives
of the Advanced Seminar
-
To educate participants on medicine price availability and financing policy issues
-
To create an environment for detailed discussions of policy options for countries
-
To collect and make available recent policy papers related to medicine pricing and financing
There is no registration fee but participants will be selected on the basis of an application. Selection will aim to ensure a balanced mixture of participants from different professions, countries, experiences and skills. The faculty will be comprised international experts from within and outside WHO as well as Indian, Chinese and Thai academics as well as staff from leading international and national NGOs.
Applications
Applications should be submitted electronically. The closing date for applications will be September 15, 2008.
