Centad and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) have come together to promote greater understanding and awareness of WTO issues and India’s position and options at the negotiations.
The objectives of the FICCI-Centad project ‘WTO and India: Road Map for the Hong Kong Ministerial’ are:
- To promote broad awareness of the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference outside the national capital to areas where the level of awareness and activities relating to the WTO are comparatively limited.
- To involve a maximum number of stakeholders at the state level in the consultation process, in the run-up to the Ministerial, so that state-level actors also have a say.
- To seek inputs and feedback from more informed stakeholders that could be forwarded to the mainstream negotiating process.
- As a more long-term objective, to help in the capacity-building process at the state level on the WTO and related issues.
The project will be carried out under the joint banner and ownership of FICCI and Centad. It will organise two seminars, one in Hyderabad and another in Mumbai.
Date for the Hyderabad event: November 15, 2005
Date for the Mumbai event: November 29, 2005
The target audience for the seminars is business people, officials from the state and district government, industry, academics/research institutions, civil society, media representatives and other stakeholders.
