Round Table Discussion on the IGWG on Public Health, Innovation and Intellectual Property

Centre for Trade and Development (Centad ) is organising a Round Table Discussion on the Intergovernmental Working Group (IGWG) on Public Health, Innovation and Intellectual Property on May 13, 2008, from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm at A-1/304 Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi-29. Ph.: 011-41459226.

The Intergovernmental Working Group on Public Health, Innovation and Intellectual Property was established in May 2006 by the WHO to prepare a global strategy and plan of action on essential health research to address conditions affecting developing countries disproportionately. The IGWG has so far completed three sittings where countries had submitted their versions of the draft text which have been assimilated into the present text for further discussion. The last session of IGWG was held in Geneva from April 28-May 3, 2008 with a mandate to come out with a consensus document for presentation at World Health Assembly.

Round Table on IGWG by Centad is part of series of consultations that the organisation has been holding to provide a platform to key stakeholders working on IGWG to reflect critically on Draft Global Strategy and Plan of Action adopted by the committee and seek negotiating inputs on the same. The purpose of this discussion is to seek negotiating inputs from the participants especially on seventeen bracketed paragraphs of current text on Global strategy and Plan of Action and recommendations for future negotiations. Please access the White Paper of the IGWG “outcome document on a draft global strategy on public health, innovation and intellectual property”.
