Third annual South Asian Conference on Trade and Development

Centad is organising its third annual South Asian Conference on Trade and Development in New Delhi, on December 19-20, 2007. The theme of this year's conference is ‘Harnessing Gains from Trade: Domestic Challenges and Beyond'.

This year's conference comes at a time when World Trade Organisation members continue with their efforts to seal a deal in the Doha round of multilateral trade talks, though the impasse persists. The debate on trade and development continues, opening up new challenges and fresh opportunities.

The two-day conference will attempt to critically examine domestic issues in South Asia which limit the scope of trade gains, and search for viable policy alternatives. With emerging issues like climate change and agribusiness changing development priorities in the region, the conference is making a special effort to mainstream these concerns.

At the conference, Centad will release the summary and recommendations of the South Asia Yearbook of Trade and Development 2007-08, published by Academic Foundation (India).
