Centad, in association with Oxfam, Traidcraft, Third World Network and ActionAid, is organising an international conference on ‘Exploring “New Regionalism”: The EU, India and Beyond' on October 30-November 1, 2007, in New Delhi.
The proliferation of North-South Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) over the past few years requires that the implications of such agreements be discussed in greater detail. Negotiations are ongoing in the India-EU FTA, the ACP-EU Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) and an FTA between the EU and ASEAN. Given that issues and concerns facing the EU's partner countries/country groupings in such agreements are often similar, sharing negotiating experiences and strategies may go a long way in facilitating a more informed negotiating stance by the concerned countries.
The conference is a modest attempt in that direction. It aims to bring together participants from the EU, ACP, ASEAN and India on the same platform. With representations from policymakers, academics, trade practitioners as well as civil society, the conference will deliberate on a range of issues surrounding European Union free trade agreements, with a particular focus on the India-EU FTA.
Date: October 30-November 1, 2007
Venue: India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, India
