Centad publication on trade in services and India

The Centad publication ‘Trade in Services and India: Prospects and Strategies’ will be released during the second annual South Asian Conference on Trade and Development, organised by Centad at the Park Hotel, New Delhi, on December 19-20, 2006.

Services constitute approximately half of the GDP of developing countries, and trade in services is the fastest growing sector in world trade. Trade in services occupies 30% of India’s exports. However, in spite of the growing importance of services, the currently available reference material is inadequate and often unavailable at a single reference point.

‘Trade in Services and India: Prospects and Strategies’ will fill this gap. It is being published by Wiley India, and edited by Dr Rupa Chanda, professor at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.

Key objectives of the publication are:
To build a credible point of reference for trade in services and India.
To contribute negotiating inputs for Indian trade negotiators.

The publication will be useful reading for trade policy makers, trade policy researchers, students, academicians, civil society organisations dealing in areas of international trade and development, research and policy organisations and businesses engaging in trade in services.

The publication will cover the following areas:

Crosscutting papers
Statistical outline of services in India
