With the failure of the June 28-July 1, 2006 talks on modalities for trade in agriculture and NAMA, the Doha Development Round of the WTO has entered a critical phase.
To break the deadlock, developed countries are applying intense pressure on developing countries like Brazil and India for granting greater market access while conceding very little. A number of concerns are being raised vis-à-vis India’s position on protection of interests in agriculture and industry. Also, there is little clarity on the road ahead and the consequences if member countries fail to reach an agreement by the end of July 2006.
To discuss these and related concerns, Centad has organised a symposium to debate the Doha impasse and where it is headed. The symposium will bring together key stakeholders to share their views and concerns on the current state of play in the Doha Round.
Two Centad Working Papers will also be released on the occasion:
- Industrial tariffs and South Asia (click here to view summary)
