Regional Consultation on 'WTO and South Asia: Strategising Beyond Hong Kong'

Centad and the Asia-Pacific Trade and Investment Initiative, UNDP Regional Centre, Colombo, are organising a  Regional Consultation on  'WTO and South Asia: Strategising Beyond Hong Kong' in New Delhi on April 21-22, 2006.

Multilateral trade negotiations have entered a crucial phase after the conclusion of the sixth WTO Ministerial Conference held in Hong Kong in December 2005. There are wide-ranging issues and concerns for developing countries in general and South Asia in particular related to making trade work for development.

In this backdrop, Centad and UNDP, Colombo , will bring together key stakeholders across South Asian countries to reflect critically on the Ministerial Text adopted in Hong Kong and seek negotiating inputs for strategising beyond Hong Kong . The consultation seeks to provide a platform for all the stakeholders in South Asia to voice their concerns and priorities relating to the overall direction of the multilateral trading regime.
