Centad, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), is organising a workshop on ‘Use of International Non-proprietary Names in India: Some Issues and Concerns ’, on March 29, 2006, in New Delhi. Click here to view draft agenda. Click here to view concept note.
In a WHO-commissioned study, Centad examines the current legal and policy regime for the use of brand names for pharmaceutical substances in India, in relation to generic names recommended as International Non-proprietary Names (INN), by the WHO. The study attempts to identify gaps, if any, in the existing regime and its implications from a public health perspective. The study also considers policy recommendations in order to strengthen the regime.
The objectives of the workshop are to present the preliminary findings of this study and seek inputs from experts towards the finalisation of policy recommendations. The workshop will bring together trademark attorneys, pharmaceutical companies, pharmaceutical associations, pharmacologists, consumer associations, civil society organisations, WHO experts, the Trade Mark Registry and concerned ministries of the Government of India.
Date: March 29, 2006
Time: 9:30 am
Venue: Jacaranda Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi
